Composition of the Selection Panel
Composition of the selection panel should reflect the Service's commitment to equality of opportunity and should as far as practicable be representative of gender, ethnicity and disability.
In order to ensure fairness, the following minimum standards apply:
- The panel must comprise at least two managers, including the chairperson.
- One panel member must be at least one grade or payband higher than the advertised post. This is normally the line manager for the post. Other panel members must be at least an equivalent grade or payband as the post being filled
- Panel members must be competent to undertake their roles.
Where justified sequential one-to-one, rather than panel, interviewing may be used. The final decision - which must be made by at least two managers of the appropriate grade and payband specified above - is based on the interviews and there must be discussion before reaching an agreed assessment.
