Managed Appointments

The normal procedure is that posts will be advertised in order to help staff progress their own career development. However, managed appointments are appropriate in some circumstances.

Level transfer

Governing Governors, Heads of Groups/Area Managers and above have authority to deploy staff to different establishments or units on level transfer to meet local operational and business needs.

Although not an exhaustive list, examples of where they may fill vacancies in this way without advertising include where:

  • A compassionate transfer is justified (see below)
  • There is a management or operational need
  • Staff are declared surplus
  • There is a need to facilitate a transfer for an individual's career development. This can be particularly relevant for those trainee psychologists who need to gain a breadth of experience.
  • Staff are returning from secondment, career break or maternity leave
Staff are being posted as part of the Intensive Development Scheme (IDS)
