| Career Development Schemes |
Career development rests with individual members of staff. The general expectation is that Prison Service vacancies will be advertised through the Vacancy Advertising Scheme in order that staff can progress their own development.
Prison Service staff may, subject to meeting eligibility criteria, also apply to vacancies advertised in Home Office Notices. These cover the whole of the Home Office estate including areas such as the Immigration and Nationality Department and the UK Passport Service, as well as posts that have been advertised throughout the Civil Service.
Personal development can be supported through effective use of the Staff Performance and Development Review arrangements, and the Service's Interchange policy also provides a number of options which can be used as development tools.
Prison Service staff are also eligible to apply to the Fast Stream Development Programme as advertised periodically by the Home Office.
