The Prison Service uses assessment centres to test candidates' suitability for promotion to some grades. These currently operate to test competence at:
- Operational Senior Manager (Suitable to be in charge)
- Operational Manager
- Senior Officer
In addition assessment centres at Manager (Home Office HEO) and Senior Manager (Home Office Grade 7) are run in conjunction with the Home Office for Central London postings in Headquarters.
Advise on assessment centre is available from MSSU in Personnel Management Group on 01924 831600. For psychology grades advice must be sought from Applied Psychology Group in Headquarters.
