Movement
between Support and Higher Support Grades (5 & 4 respectively) and into
Craftsman Grade (3) is based on acquisition of skills and/or qualifications
for the grade concerned. This is a
local responsibility for which suitable records must be kept. Movement into the Supervisor and Technician
Grades (2 & 1 respectively) is by promotion using normal VAS procedures
but advertising of
panels may be restricted to the local establishment or to those in the
immediate geographical or Prison Service area if appropriate. Governors
may seek advice on pay and grading of posts from their Area Works
Co-ordinator and Pay and Employee Relations Group (PERG) in
Headquarters. Further information on
pay and grading can also be found in Notice to Staff 15/2001. The skills and qualifications required are the
same as those contained in the Recruitment website. |
