All psychology staff must be recruited according to standard Recruitment procedures. In addition the following supplementary procedures apply : -
When recruiting psychologists:·
- The Area Psychologist must be involved in all campaigns from the outset.
- All trainee psychologists' posts must clearly set out the route to chartership available within that post. This may be for some exemplars, not all, but must be made explicit. The funding provisions for the Stage 1 and Stage 2 requirements must be pre- agreed.
- No psychologist can apply for direct re-instatement without the consent of the Area Psychologist in liason with the Lead Psychologist (Directorate of Operations) or Area Psychologist (High Security Estate) as relevant.
- The selection process for psychologists is by competence-based interview. An extended interview process can be employed. This must be agreed by the area psychologist from the outset.
- Part time appointments need to be agreed locally. However, in the case of trainee psychologists the position would generally have to be at least ½ time as any less would mean that they were ineligible for training under the provisions of the British Psychological Society.
When recruiting psychological assistants: -
The selection process for a psychological assistant is by competence based interview. Extended interview procedures can be used. This must be agreed by the area psychologist.
