Prison Rule 45 (YOI Rule 49)

Removal from association

45. – (1) Where is appears desirable, for the maintenance of good order or discipline or in his own interests, that a prisoner should not associate with other prisoners, either generally or for particular purposes, the governor may arrange for the prisoner’s removal from association accordingly.

Under Prison Rule 46 (no young offender equivalent)

Close supervision centres

46. – (1) Where is appears desirable, for the maintenance of good order or discipline or to ensure the safety of officers, prisoners or any other person, that a prisoner should not associate with other prisoners, either generally or for particular purposes, the Secretary of State may direct the prisoner’s removal from association accordingly and his placement in a close supervision centre of a prison.

Under Prison Rule 53(4) (YOI Rule 58(4))

Disciplinary charges

53. – (4) A prisoner who is to be charges with an offence against discipline may be kept apart from other prisoners pending the governor’s first inquiry.

Under Prison Rule 55(e) (YOI Rule 60(f))

Governor’s punishments

55. – (1) If he finds a prisoner guilty of an offence against discipline the governor may, subject to …, impose one or more of the following punishments:
